A great lodging in a fantastic location. We really appreciated that we could walk to just about everywhere in downtown Edinburgh, and had easy access to train, bus, and tram as well. So nice to be on Calton Hill, where a few steps up took us to a grand view over the city, and yet we felt as if we were in a very private place. The two-story lodging feels very homey and it was lovely to return to at the end of the day. We had neighbors downstairs a couple of nights during our weeklong stay but didn’t really notice them. The backyard garden was only for us and on sunny days it was great to sit out there. Can’t recommend this place highly enough; we would absolutely book here again. Also, host was super responsive whenever we had a question, answering us within minutes.

My siblings and I really enjoyed the historic feel of the house mixed with modern amenities. Any questions were immediately answered, and we felt right at home. The location is fabulous, easily in walking distance to the many attractions in Edinburgh.

Gorgeous house and garden with comfortable beds and fabulous location at the base of Calton Hill Positive: Fabulous location at the base of Calton Hill. Gorgeous garden and loved the way the rooms were furnished. The beds were so comfortable! Loved the large kitchen and living area where we could all gather. Very clean. The whole property was gorgeous. Check in was easy. Negative: The stove had no instructions. The kitchen is well outfitted and calling for large group meals. So to not be able to operate the stove was a big miss. We ended up with a a lot of food we couldn’t cook for breakfast on the last morning. And the checkout instructions were vague and difficult to follow (where do we take the rubbish out on the street?) And, response times to questions were slow. Luckily we didn’t have many.

Absolutely perfect!! Cannot wait to go back! Positive: The location was perfect! It was cozy and charming- exactly what I wanted in a Scottish home. Communication with Marco was excellent. We had a little water issue which he addressed within minutes! And went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied! The home is spacious and has everything you need for a short or long stay. Furniture and beds were extremely comfortable too. We loved having morning tea out in the yard! Negative: Having to leave:(

Truly a gem hidden in Edinburgh! We felt it the moment we walked through the gate. We all commented on how other tourists saw us enter the gates thinking it was a place to visit or like it was a VIP area. The house was cozy and fit our group perfectly. I only wish we stayed longer. Our favorite part of the home was the backyard, where in the evening we could sit and sip whiskey or whatever beverage and listed to the sounds of Scotland. It was beautiful to hear local musicians playing bagpipes or violin from the hill above. Truly an A+ location and unique stay.

This is a wonderful place to stay! Scenery is gorgeous! House was outstanding. Had every bed full and still felt spacious. Had a large but very cozy living room with a working fireplace. Kitchen had absolutely everything that we needed. Just fabulous!

Not having a bathroom on first floor was a huge disappointment. The older guests had to climb the stairs inside to use restroom, bathe, after climbing 4 flights of stairs to get to unit. Great location in the city. From the homes windows we could see the beautiful Christmas colors on famous buildings. Kitchen well equipped with utensils. Was thankful for dishwasher soap. Thankful for having a Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas in Scotland. We would have loved a couple of king size beds but we adapted. Bed linens were perfect for that home. Would absolutely considering staying again if the bathroom situation is resolved.

Marco’s place was the perfect spot for my family and me! We loved spending time at Rock House, and the location was perfect. A few of my family members stayed in the main house and a few in the studio, and we all loved walking to Old Town/New Town during the day and enjoying meals around the kitchen table at night. Our stay was nothing but perfection, and I can’t recommend this place enough.

Rock House was a beautiful home in the perfect location to explore Edinburgh! We loved feeling like we had our own private oasis in the middle of the city and everywhere we wanted to go was within easy walking distance. A beautiful spot, hidden gem. Positive: Amazing location, it feels like a hidden gem in the heart of the City. Beautiful decor and feel - it was cosy but still spacious for eight of us. Negative: The bed in the small room upstairs is a small double, fine for two kids but not ideal for two adults. Check out at 10 felt very early, not helped by cleaners arriving at 9.55 to nudge us out…

Wonderful hidden gem in the heart of Edinburgh Positive: The little hidden garden and the views to Calton Hill were amazing. It was also a little haven right in the city centre! Negative: A downstairs loo would have been ideal but we fully understand that the building is historic and so not that easy to convert. Stairs were very steep between floors, but again that's in keeping with the age of the building

Absolutely perfect. Rented for my daughter’s wedding for bridal party and wedding night. Plenty of room for the ladies and sweet place for the wedding night. Exceeded expectations and made for beautiful photos as the bride dressed. The private garden was a quiet sanctuary even though it was steps away from the entrance walkway to Calton Hill. Positive: Absolutely gorgeously decorated, fantastic location, plenty of seating everywhere, and kitchen was very well appointed. We loved staying here, especially enjoying some baked goods and coffee in the courtyard. Negative: Some of the beds might need a new mattress from age, and twin beds could use a larger blanket. Beautiful historic house, close to everything, but private. Positive: Location was fabulous and and the house is so interesting. Negative: We had trouble with one of the showers and since there were 6 adults staying there, the fact that we only had one working shower for 5 days was an issue. It did get resolved, though, so the end of the stay was perfect.

The Rock House is a literal gem in the heart of Edinburgh. Full of charm and character throughout the house, the spacious kitchen (fully stocked), dining area (large table) and lounge (massive sofas) can easily accommodate a large family or several couples (as was our case). The private and peaceful garden was perfect for coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. Thankfully we had beautiful weather all weekend. Marco was fantastic! Easy to work with, very accommodating and quick to respond to messages. We couldn’t say enough good things about the entire experience.

I cannot say enough good things about The Stone House. I've been travelling to Edinburgh many times; yet, this location and home are the best I've experienced! Nestled along Calton Hill provides the most idealic backdrop and the proximity to the Old Town is only a very short stroll. The charm of the cottage was so enticing, we decided to spend an afternoon around the dinning table and enjoying our friendships and the views.

Perfecte locatie voor een kleine groep. Centraal, rustig, luxe en enorm gezellig en comfortabel. Positive: The Rock House was precies zo gezellig als op de foto’s wordt beloofd. We waren met 8 volwassenen en in de woonkamer was er voor iedereen een comfortabele plek. De open haard is supergezellig en een hele mooie toevoeging aan de woonkamer. De keuken is van alle gemakken voorzien, gezellig en groot genoeg voor 8. Last but not least: de ligging is perfect. Rustig, maar in het centrum en vlakbij het busstation.

Beautiful location, house and garden. Positive: We had a fantastic team strategy away day here - the venue was perfect for those travelling far by train - just a few minutes away. The helpful pictures and instructions to access the property were brilliant. The house itself is just stunning and the views brilliant with a wonderful garden and patio. Marco was a fantastic host and replied quickly to questions and even quickly dropped off firelighters and kindling so we could have a lovely cosy fire on our last night. We would highly recommend!

Our stay at the Rock House was just as magical as we had hoped! The decor was as lovely as the photos and it had all the historic charm of its age combined with modern convenience and an incredible location. Furnishings were comfortable as well as beautiful. The historic photos, prints, and books around the house added charming interest. After exploring Edinburgh each day, we loved slipping behind the locked gate and coming home to our gorgeous cottage and enchanting garden tucked away in the middle of everything. We could not stop looking at the amazing views from every window -- it was worth every penny saved and each step climbed to reach this fantastic home. It was absolutely wonderful and we would not hesitate to return!

Amazing place. One of the absolute best AirBnbs we have ever stayed in. Unique, private, quiet, historic house that makes you feel like are in the country but you are actually right in the city within walking distance of most everything including good coffee shop and restaurants within a couple hundred yards, and nice hiking at Arthur’s Seat within 10-16 minute walk. Private yard, firewood, and even some snacks and drinks provided. Plenty of space, nice common room for watching TV or hanging out, and great kitchen. More than enough room for our family of 7. Really can’t say enough about the place. Was fantastic.

This is a gorgeous home that made it hard to leave and explore the city 🥰 The location is fantastic - centralized to all the Edinburgh spots and even a stones throw from the “hop on and off” tour buses. The rooms are well appointed with cozy beds and linens and beautifully decorated. Edinburgh is a hilly city, so be mindful that there are some (more than a few) steps to climb to reach the house. If you’re up to the task, it’s worth it at the top ❤️

The Rock House was a 10 out of 10! My friends and I booked a trip to Edinburgh and found Marco and the teams lovely, lovely home and could not have been luckier! The home is in such an ideal and convenient location to everything you want to see in Edinburgh and so charming and welcoming inside. This house is amazing! Such a cool, historic place but with all of the modern amenities. Lots of space for multiple couples, families, or a group. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The only thing is that one bed is listed as King Size but is a Euro King size - maybe a large Full size for Americans. Still easily sleeps lots of people. Easily walkable to everything in Edinburgh!

Wonderful ambiance in this historic house. Perfect location for accessing all of old Edinburgh. Not for those who have difficulty with stairs or can’t carry their luggage. There is no parking adjacent nor a guaranteed loading place on the street. Robust stair cases to access the property. Inside only 1 bedroom is on “ground” floor the rest require another steep staircase. If this is not an issue for your group then this IS the place to stay.

From the beginning, Marco was on top of the communication, always reaching out with great information and very friendly. The Rock House was everything in the listing and more. The perfect location, easy to walk to Waverly Station well as local transportation and the Royal Mile is very close. The home itself is beautiful and well appointed with a wonderful back garden. Fantastic Christmas Short Stay Positive: We loved our stay at Rock house, it is such a beautiful house situated in a great location just off Princes street. The house has everything we needed including underfloor heating and a welcoming living room with a roaring fire. There was even a Christmas tree in the room which was a lovely touch. Marco was a great host and answered all of our questions prior to arriving with such professionalism and efficiency. We were even given a late checkout which really helped us-thanks again Marco. We had a lovely holiday for a few days here. The location is great and the house was very clean. We spent a day wandering the shops on the Royal Mile and a couple of days touring the countryside in Scotland. There are a lot of steps into the house though so be aware of that if you're traveling with large bags as we were. There is also another unit on the ground floor of the house that we didn't know about until we checked in, so the rental isn't for the entire cottage as described.

The location is extremely convenient to the Waverly train station. We had no problems locating the house. It is an extraordinarily unique home. The backyard has a view of the Calton Hill monument. Wish we were there when the weather was warm to take advantage of the backyard. The house was well equipped and very clean. The area is quiet yet still walking distance to many of the important sites and shopping. Marco was great in communicating with us. We highly recommend staying at this location.

Our stay at the Rock House, 26 Calton Hill, was both charming and historical. This is a very well-maintained and beautiful home. Every detail was well thought through which reflects the period of the home. Comfort, style, and grace ... just a few words to describe this home. Our host Marco was very responsive to our needs. We could have not been happier with our stay in Edinburgh !

We had such a wonderful stay at The Rock House! Our host, Marco, was brilliant with quick replies and helpful information. There were lovely little touches ready for our arrival. The house is beautifully decorated and inkeeping with the history of the building. When you're sat in the lovely garden, you forget you're only a short walk from the bustling city centre. We would definitely stay there again when next in Edinburgh!

Rock House is an absolute gem in the heart of Edinburgh, just a 5 minute walk from Waverley station. A beautiful, characterful property, tastefully decorated throughout, and the perfect base for a group of 8 to explore Edinburgh. Marco, our host, responded quickly to any queries. Highly recommended. We would happily stay at Rock House again!

This home is in such a great location. It’s a little tricky to find the first time, but Marcos instructions were very helpful. It’s literally on Calton Hill behind a beautiful gate.. it’s an incredible spot! We easily walked all over town (though there are many steps). Both the bathrooms are on the top floor along with 3/4 bedrooms. There was plenty of space for our two families (4 adults and 4 kids), and we very much appreciated the lovely little garden and having access to the laundry room. We had an excellent time in Edinburgh!

Vi havde et vidunderligt ophold i The Rock House. Dette sted er hel unikt og meget charmerende. Huset ligger på en fantastisk og central lokation i Edinburgh, lige for foden af Calton Hill, på vej ind i parken. Man får oplevelsen af en privat oase. Så snart man træder ind på grunden igennem den gamle aflåste smedejernslåge, går man fra byens summen og ind i en smuk og rolig oase. Vi følte os meget velkomne og godt taget i mod. Huset er smukt, utrolig charmerende og hyggeligt! Det er veludstyret og passer nøjagtig til beskrivelsen - også med det skønne sengetøj og håndklæder. Vi kommer med stor fornøjelse igen og anbefaler Marco’s værtsskab.

Terrific property and ideally located. Provides the privacy of a cottage (complete with garden for relaxing and dining outside) in the heart of Edinburgh minutes walk from city center, Edinburgh Castle, Fulton Hill, and numerous “must see” venues in the city. Easy access to Edinburgh Waverly train station (5 min walk). Marco made the check-in / check-out process easy and was superbly responsive. Highly recommend for your next stay in Edinburgh!

The house is just as fabulous as shown in the pictures. The beds are comfortable. Everything is clean. It has everything one would ask for in a dream vacation house. Macro is super helpful in answering all sort of questions that we have. Last but not the least, within a couple minutes from the doorstep, one can reach the top of Calton Hill which is spectacular.

The Rock House (main house) is fabulous with lots of period features and a working Aga. Location on Calton Hill was fabulous yet secluded in its own surroundings. Bedrooms were all comfortable and kitchen well stock so that eight of us easily enjoyed meals around a large dining table. \butchers table next to the Aga made for a great but massive chopping board. Our dogs loved the secluded and private garden too. Will definitely be back with family and friends to enjoy walking into Edinburgh City Centre.

I can't imagine a nicer place to stay in Edinburgh. I stayed here with a group of close friends for 3 nights and we were unanimous in how much we loved it. This is a stunning house - historic, beautifully decorated, very well cared-for, super comfortable. An absolute gem. I can't recommend it highly enough. A beautiful house in an amazing setting! So peaceful at night, yet so close to the city centre! Can’t say enough good things about this place. Location is perfect and the space itself is brilliant. We’re a family of four (two little ones) and it worked very well for us (all the amenities we needed, travel cot, child seat, bed options, etc.) - but it would also work for much larger groups of any type. We did have a couple of questions on check in day, and Marco was super helpful and quick to respond. Everything was clean and comfortable and it is a space you could easily stay in for longer than just the three nights we stayed.

Rock House is beautiful! We visited as part of a girls’ trip and the place was perfect. The house itself was cosy, clean, and looked exactly like the pictures. It was easy to access, and very close to Princes St. and Edinburgh attractions. Marco was incredibly friendly and responsive. We’ll definitely be staying again next time, and I’d recommend the place to any groups visiting Edinburgh!

Characterfull and excellently equiped property Positive: An excellently equipped property full of character. Definitely one of the nicest properties we ever rented. The communication with and service by the management were excellent. Fantastic location just at the foot of Calton Hill. The partner catering company prepares delicious meals. Negative: I would have preferred a harder mattress on the bed, but I guess that is a matter of personal preference.

Loved every minute Positive: The whole house is gorgeous. So central but quiet at night. The views are amazing and the history of the building is apparent. Garden is so tranquil and lovely to be in as well. No issues with the place that would make me never want to stay again. Negative: The woven carpets were quite painful to walk on with bare feet.
