The Old School in Dean Village

Positive: Great place to stay, we had all we needed. Our host was great, we did not meet but he responded immediately and helped us with all we needed. Negative: We have been aware about distances and we heard about all the steps and hills, but still have been surprised about this fact in reality 😂 So nothing to complain!

Positive: Great location and cozy. Plenty of room and the bathroom was amazing. Negative: The hand rail was coming out of the wall, the bed wasn't very comfortable. Parking was difficult to get to and cramped. The host seemed to hover and monitor us.

Delightful stay in the heart of Dean Village Positive: I must say, after traveling around a lot and staying in various places, Marco was the nicest and most accommodating host. He was very helpful and communicative and I appreciated that. There were some details about the property that stood out: having both a washer and a dryer was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable and had heating pads for warmth. The water pressure in the shower was very strong. Large TVs in the living room and both bedrooms. Location is perfect.

The reason you stay here is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! Positive: The location was absolutely exceptional. Very walkable for many attractions in the area. The neighborhood was beautiful and seemed very safe. Negative: There was an odd smell in the common areas in the building. There were ALOT of stairs in the unit and the layout wasn't what I expected but understandable in a historic building.

Great communication from host with great location. Onsite parking was perfect. Had a mildew smell and wasn’t the freshes Positive: Great location in Dean Village. Walking distance to old town and Stockbridge. Negative: Had a mildew smell and wouldn’t recommend for people with mold allergies. Lots of stairs (which was okay for us) and things were a bit dingy feeling. Drain in bathroom sink was clogged.

Mixed experience Positive: Dean Village is a lovely area. The outside of the building was charming with nice landscaping. It was quiet at night and relatively close (up a steep hill)to restaurants and coffee. The kitchen was fairly well stocked and clean, there were clean linens and the couches were comfy. The bathtub was great and there was plenty of hot water. Negative: There was a strong smell of damp upon entering which lingered on the first level, lessened somewhat on the second level and was undetectable on the top floor. Some of the carpet had patches that were worn thin and some of the wallpaper was torn… I could not get the coffee maker to work, one of the knobs on the bathroom sink came off in my hand. As the oddities added up, we found the place to be in need of some repair and TLC

Super stay in Dean Village Positive: Fantastic location. On site parking. Easy walking access to the city, (although some folks may find the gradient hard work). Comfy bed. Well equipped kitchen. Spacious bathroom. Pretty setting. Negative: Property is built over three floors, with kitchen on top floor and bathroom on lower floor, so there's a lot of stairs which may be challenging for some people.

Positive: Marco and company are the loveliest hosts out. Communication was amazing. This place is beautiful to stay in. The area is quiet and unique and only a short distance to main streets and public transport. The dedicated car space was a life saver as parking in the area is near impossible. We didnt utilise the kitchen facilities unfortunately as Edinburgh has too many restaurant options. Highly recommend this place Negative: I had to leave

Positive: It is a home away from home. It has all the needed amenities that will make one’s stay very comfortable and enjoyable. The location is in the heart of the astonishing Dean Village. Positive: Coole 3-stöckige sehr saubere Wohnung in einem schönen Quartier. Kontakt mit dem Gastgeber war sehr gut. Negative: Mussten den Schlüssel ein bisschen suchen aber eine nette Nachbarin hat uns geholfen. Im unteren Stock war es zu kalt und der Rollo deckte nicht das ganze Fenster ab sodass es früh hell war im Zimmer und es roch ein bisschen komisch unten.

Great apartment in beautiful village Positive: In the beautiful Dean Village, every building has so much character. Everything you need is supplied. Great communication with host. Negative: There’s a fairly constant flow of tourists around Dean Village but they weren’t noisy or intrusive.

Positive: Great location which enabled you to walk everywhere. Apartment is unusual and photo instructions to get in were very helpful. Tourists went away in evening leaving area quiet at night. Negative: Would like more space for clothes rather than just using our cases. Some cups were chipped and there was a lack of kitchen utensils and cooking bowls.

Fabulous stay in stunning location Positive: The location was fantastic. The property was beautiful, very clean and had everything we needed. Everything was within walking distance. The host, Marco, was fabulous. Very helpful with check in and check out flexibility and very knowledgeable about the local area, which made our weekend even more enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again.

Positive: Lovely location in Dean village. Recommend walking along the river both directions are very interesting. Stockbridge one way and the other direction of Murrayfield Stadium. You can walk to Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One) and Modern Two, located just a short walk away on Belford Road. These, along with the nearby Dean Gallery, are easily accessed from the village via the Water of Leith walkway. Used washing machine, dishwasher with detergents tablets provided. Shower gel, shampoo, teabags, and biscuits were nice touches Nice towels and a big bathroom with shower and bath The apartment is split over 3 floors, which made it interesting. We walked to Edinburgh Castle from here and found it was a short walk to a tram stop called WEST END. You can go into the city or to the airport, and we got a 5 day ticket tram ticket online. Would certainly come back, there is quite a lot you can do here. Negative: Walking up the hill to get out of the village was a good exercise. Struggled to find access to keys as we arrived late in the dark, and there were several key locks to choose from, and we tried them all. Oven was hard to use as numbers had rubbed off, so I had to use it by guessing the temperature. Area can get busy with tourists taking photographs of the building, but it did not cause too much of an issue

Great host, excellent location, great apartment. What more can you ask for! Positive: Marco's communication was excellent, particularly over details for arriving and getting the keys. You cannot emphasise the value of parking this close to town centre. We hadn't realised how much space there is in the apartment. The location is perfect and you can easily walk to all the attractions in the centre of Edinburgh. I will certainly be hoping to stay here again. Negative: There was really nothing to mark this apartment down over.

Par tur til Edinburgh Positive: Koselig leilighet midt i smørøyet i pittoreske dean village. Stille og rolig på kvelden, kort vei til sentrum kveldstid. Deilige håndklær og sengetøy. God kommunikasjon med verten Marco. Alt en trenger til matlaging og drikke. Negative: Noe hard seng oppe, men så er vi vandt til myk seng.

Delizioso soggiorno nel cuore di Dean Village Positive: La posizione fantastica nel cuore di Dean Village e la casetta disposta su 3 piani era davvero deliziosa. In più era fornita davvero di ogni comodità, anche la cucina era fornita di detersivi e tutto l’occorrente per eventualmente cucinare (spezie, carta forno, scottex, etc) Negative: Forse un po’ troppo umido il piano terra con il bagno che ha una delle due camere da letto interrate.

Excellent Positive: Tout était parfait, que ce soit le logement ainsi que la communication avec Marco. Le logement est propre, possède un charme incroyable et très bien placé. Parking présent sur place (descente du parking un peu étroite, à faire un peu attention mais nous avions une Seat Ateca). Les équipements sont tous fournis et bien + (épices, serviettes, linges de lit, produits corporels, etc). Je recommande fortement, y aller les yeux fermé et y retournerai avec plaisir. Negative: Rien à ajouter.

Really enjoyed our stay, would definitely go back. Positive: Excellent location. Quirky property, great communication from the host Marco. Well equipped with everything you could need. Loved the games. Extra bonus is the parking just outside the door. Negative: Fridge in bedroom, blinds in downstairs bedroom don't fit so light shining in early morning. Needs a bit of tlc.

We had a good holiday. The accommodation was good. Well equipped kitchen. Nice bathroom with bath and separate good shower and plenty hot water. Double beds in all 3 bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Parking space a bonus. Nice riverside walk to St Bernard's Well and Stockbridge shops. The only drawback for some might be the steep stairs between the floors with the bathroom and one bedroom on the bottom floor up to the living room and 2 bedrooms on the next floor and the kitchen/diner on the top floor. There is also a steep hill to walk up to Princes Street and the West End. Access from the parking space at the rear leads to the ground floor with access from the street side giving access to the middle floor. All in all everything was good.
